Fillers

Dr. Brown treats deeper wrinkles, lines or undesirable contours like thin lips by injecting facial fillers such as Juviderm® or Restylane®. Fillers are derived from and composed of substances that are normally found in the skin and are permanent, semi-permanent (last a few years), or temporary (last 6-12 months). Most fillers that Dr. Brown uses last 6-12 months.

How do fillers work? The fillers are composed of natural substances found in skin and bone. They are usually injected into the skin (dermis), however the more permanent fillers are injected into the deeper layers below the skin.

How painful are the injections? - Dr. Brown will numb the area before injecting the filler. Once the area is numbed, there is little discomfort.

How long does it take to work and how long does it last? - You can see the results of facial fillers immediately. While there can be some swelling around the injection site, the swelling will dissipate in 24-48 hours. Depending on where the filler is placed, the results will last longer or less with time. Those areas where there is a lot of movement, like the lip area, will often need to be retreated in 4-6 months, while other areas with less movement, like the nose, will last months longer.

Will I look like a different person? - No, you will not look different. Ideally, you will look like a younger more rejuvenated version of yourself.

What about redness and bruising? - You will see minimal redness and bruising and any that does occur generally disappears within 24 to 48 hours.

What restrictions are there after treatment with facial fillers? - There are no restrictions after treatment with fillers.
