WHAT IS A FACELIFT RHYTIDECTOMY)?

While it is impossible to stop aging in its tracks it is possible to dial back time and regain the youthful appearance to your face that you have been looking for. A facelift or Rhytidectomy allows you to rejuvenate wrinkles, deflated cheeks, loose jowls, and sagging skin, unlike any other non-invasive procedure. Facial rejuvenation is complex and generally is combined with additional procedures. Just like anything else, surgery alone is not the full answer, and proper skin care is paramount for optimal facial surgery results.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FACELIFT?

You are an ideal candidate for a facelift:

  • If you are a healthy, non-nicotine using patient for more than one month
  • If you are not happy with the appearance of your cheeks, nasal folds, jowls, excess face and neck skin, neck bands, or volume loss of the face

THE FACELIFT PROCEDURE

Each facelift Dr. Brown performs is tailored and based on each patient’s unique needs and desires. Everyone’s face ages very differently, and in turn, each procedure must be specific. By understanding your specific concerns, we will tailor a surgical plan that results in subtle enhancement. When performed with precision and artistry, a facelift restores youthful radiance without looking “done” or leaving your facial features with a “pulled” appearance.

Often times with facial aging you can see wrinkles, eyelid sagging, loss of, or mal-positioning of the cheeks, deep creases from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth (nasolabial folds), downturned corners of the mouth, jowl formation along the jawline, and excess skin of the face and neck area. Dr. Brown will perform other procedures at the same time such as eyebrow rejuvenation, eyelid rejuvenation, chin implant placement, fat transfer, laser skin resurfacing, and chemical peels when necessary.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A FACELIFT SURGERY?

Improvement and rejuvenation of many areas of the face at one time.

Improved contour and appearance to the neck because facelift and neck lift surgery are almost always performed together. Potentially improved volume restoration when performed with fat transfer, a commonly used natural filler during facial rejuvenation surgery. The million-dollar question is how long will my facelift last? The answer is it depends on the age at which you have surgery and the overall quality and elasticity of your tissue.

FACELIFT PROCEDURE DETAILS

Facial rejuvenation surgery is most commonly performed under general anesthesia, however, some procedures can be done with sedation. There are many approaches with varying incision patterns that will be customized to your needs. A small surgical drain is left beneath the neck skin and is removed the next day.

An overnight stay will be required for this procedure for your comfort and safety. The deeper tissue layers will be tightened using sutures and volume may be added in the form of fat or tissue filler. Excess skin will then be removed.

WHAT OTHER PROCEDURES ARE OFTEN COMBINED WITH A FACELIFT?

Often times you have combined procedures such as:

  1. EYEBROW LIFT
  2. EYELID SURGERY
  3. FAT TRANSFER
  4. CHIN AUGMENTATION

FACELIFT RECOVERY*

When having facial rejuvenation surgery you will be required to stay overnight at a specialized facility for your comfort and safety. The operation itself takes 2-6 hours depending on how many procedures are performed at the same time. Expect bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks. Pain varies but is controlled with oral medications for 5-7 days. You are encouraged to walk when possible immediately with no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. You will have a head bandage in place that Dr. Brown will remove along with your surgical drain the day after surgery.

You may drive when you are no longer requiring narcotic pain medications, usually 1-2 weeks. You may shower after 48 hours. Sutures are removed 10-14 days after surgery in our office. Strenuous exercise can be started at 6 weeks. Expect 2 weeks off of work depending on job demands. You will be seen in our office one week after surgery, and scheduled follow-ups accordingly thereafter.
