After graduating high school he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. Before attending medical school he was an orderly at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, where he discovered his passion for surgery. Dr. Brown then moved to Chicago where he earned his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School. While there, he was president of the Student Surgical Society. He then completed his General Surgery residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. While at Northwestern, Dr. Brown joined Dr. Thomas Mustoe’s lab and spent one year dedicated to wound healing and scar research. During that year, he wrote and published papers in one of the top Plastic Surgery journals, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He then graduated and became certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery. Finally, Dr. Brown completed his residency training in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. Plastic Surgeon in Phoenix Dr. Richard Joseph Brown was proud to begin his practice in the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery after 12 years of training. He is double board certified in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He is originally from Atlanta, Georgia where many of his family members still reside.

Dr. Brown’s goal is to treat every patient with respect and admiration as if they were a member of his family. He always strives to be self-critical of his work so that at the end of the day, he can say he did his best. He is passionate about this commitment.

 

Dr. Brown was drawn to the field of Plastic Surgery because of the broadness of this specialty. He loves the fact that he can perform reconstructive, as well as cosmetic procedures and that he can operate on infants, as well as adults. Dr. Brown believes that Plastic Surgery is a very challenging specialty that requires innovative thought and is always changing. No two surgeries are ever the same. He loves the diversity and the overall amazing feeling of joy he gets from having the privilege to do what he does every day.

Dr. Brown’s practice is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as Sun City and he specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, body, breast, and extremities. He takes your privacy and safety seriously and wants you to be able to communicate openly and feel comfortable during your visit. Ultimately, as a Plastic surgeon in Phoenix, Dr. Brown’s success is judged by the satisfaction of his patients, and he is committed to that goal.
