If you have moderate to several sagging in your face, you may be a great candidate for a facelift. Also known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift can take 5 to 10 years off your face and give you the youthful look you’ve been longing for. If you lead a busy life and are interested in facelift surgery, you may be wondering how long the recovery process is. Let’s dive deeper into the answer to this very common question.
Facelift Recovery Process
Most of my patients return home from a facelift the same day of their procedure and have a friend or family member help them with the recovery process. During the first few days after your surgery, I’ll encourage you to get plenty of rest and sleep with your head a bit elevated. Although you may experience swelling and bruising in your face, these side effects should resolve on their own after two weeks.
If you have a desk job, I may clear you to return to work after about two weeks. This is around the time that you’ll feel comfortable engaging in light exercises. Typically, a full social recovery takes about four weeks.
I will provide you with detailed recovery instructions after your procedure. In addition, I’ll ask that you visit my office for several follow-up appointments throughout the recovery process.

Tips for a Healthy Facelift Recovery
There are some things you can do to expedite your recovery and ensure it goes smoothly. First and foremost, eat a well-balanced, nutritious diet with fruits, veggies, and proteins. Try to limit your responsibilities and get as much as rest as you can during the first few weeks after your surgery.
If your face feels itchy, try not to scratch it. Doing so can cause uneven healing and remove brand new skin. I can suggest special medications if you can’t resist the urge to scratch. Since your skin will be very sensitive after surgery, it’s also a good idea to stay out of the sun. If you do have to go outside, wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
“I had planned long ago to have some cosmetic surgery when I was 55. I did consultations with a number of surgeons before choosing Dr. Brown to perform a facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty, fat transfer to upper and lower eyes, cheeks, lips, and marionette lines. I am thrilled with the results!!!!” *
