LIPOSUCTION FOR MEN

Despite our best efforts after maximizing a healthy meal plan and exercise routine, many men find themselves with areas of stubborn and unwanted excess fat; especially around the flanks and midsection. Male liposuction, or body contouring, is the removal of excess fat from the body. Though liposuction was a procedure once primarily performed on female patients, in recent years more and more men than ever are enjoying the benefits of the procedure and achieving their aesthetic goals.

What is important to keep in mind is that although male liposuction helps with redefining and reshaping the body, it should not be seen as a substitute for losing weight. Male liposuction helps primarily if you have stubborn localized fat deposits that don’t seem to respond to a proper meal plan and exercise routine.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A MALE LIPOSUCTION?

You’re a good candidate for male liposuction:

  • If you are a healthy, non-nicotine using patient for more than one month with stable weight over 6 months
  • If you have stubborn localized fat deposits that don’t seem to respond to a proper meal plan and exercise routine
  • If you have good skin elasticity
  • If you have realistic goals and expectations

    THE LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE

Dr. Brown will consult with you to see what your cosmetic goals are. The consultation will help him to determine the elasticity of your skin and determine the areas that need to be treated. There are a variety of techniques and technologies relating to liposuction, and no one solution is right for every patient. Through comprehensive consultation, Dr. Brown will be able to determine the best approach for you.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM A LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE?*

    1. A slimmer appearance and ability to better fit into clothes
    2. A firmer, contoured midsection
    3. Improved definition to your physique in areas including the arms, chest, abdomen, flanks, and thighs
    4. Renewed confidence and a better self-image

HOW LONG IS THE TYPICAL PROCEDURE?*

The duration of the procedure can vary depending on how much liposuction is required. Dr. Brown will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. If you use nicotine products you will be asked to stop to allow for faster healing. You will receive medications to control pain and discomfort during the surgery. General anesthesia will be used in most cases. Appropriate compression garments will be applied after the procedure. Small sutures will be placed in the incisions and are dissolvable.

    IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

Early recovery time can take up to six weeks, however, you will be back to working out within a few weeks. Full recovery is generally achieved in 3-6 months. You will be instructed on how to manage your compression garments, take medications, and what activities you can and cannot engage in. Swelling and bruising occurs within 48 hours and will disappear after two to three weeks. You will be advised to avoid bending, straining or lifting heavy objects for one to two weeks. Depending on the extent of the procedure you will most likely be able to return to work a few days after the procedure.
