AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?
You are an ideal candidate for breast augmentation if:
- You are a nonsmoker and in generally good health
- You are close to your ideal weight
- You have lost breast volume following weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding
- You have small and/or asymmetrical breasts
- You have reasonable expectations for surgery and are willing to follow all of Dr. Brown’s postsurgical advice
After gaining an understanding of the ideal breasts you desire, he will guide you through making surgical choices that are in alignment with your unique goals. He will also talk to you about the differences between implants available, and help you select a size that will add the precise amount of volume you desire. Throughout this process, Dr. Brown will spend a great deal of time explaining the benefits and drawbacks of each option to ensure that you’re educated and comfortable with your choices before moving forward.
The surgery usually takes 1 hour or less to complete. If a breast lift is also performed an additional 60-90 minutes is required. Dr. Brown uses different types of implants and various incisions to place the implants, depending on your desired results and anatomy. He will make the incisions as inconspicuous as possible. Breast implants may be inserted through the armpit, the crease below the breast fold, or on the edge of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). The breast implants are placed in a pocket created either directly behind the breast tissue (sub-glandular), or underneath the pectoralis muscle (submuscular.) Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages, and Dr. Brown will discuss with you which incision best fits your needs.
Dr. Brown performs breast augmentation procedures under general anesthesia for your comfort and safety.
BREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY*
After your breast augmentation procedure, you will need to refrain from vigorous activities for 6 weeks. Also, you shouldn’t do any heavy lifting (10 lbs +) during these six weeks. Recovery time can vary slightly from patient to patient and Dr. Brown will give you more specific instructions and details during your consultation.
