Liposuction surgery can help you achieve the sleeker, more toned look that you want for your body. Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. Richard J. Brown can remove modest amounts of fat in targeted areas to leave you with the natural curves that complement your frame.
Liposuction Treatment Areas
Liposuction treatment is not a weight loss solution. It is a body sculpting procedure that allows Dr. Brown to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat that have not responded well to diet and exercise. Areas of the body that candidates request most often include:
- Breasts (primarily for men)
The Liposuction Procedure
The liposuction procedure takes about 1-2 hours depending on how many areas we are treating. Your surgery may be performed as an outpatient procedure or in an inpatient operating suite. Twilight or general sedation will be used. Dr. Brown will discuss your options and make the recommendations that are right for you during your consultation.
The morning of surgery, Dr. Brown will mark the sites to be suctioned and answer any last minute questions you may have. Dr. Brown will make 1-2 incisions per treatment area. These incisions are only a few millimeters long and will be hidden as inconspicuously as possible in the natural folds of your skin.
Dr. Brown will perform either traditional or ultrasonic liposuction depending on what you have discussed during your consultation. Both options use a small cannula (tube) to suction out your stubborn fat deposits.
Most patients can return home the day of surgery. We will discuss the details of how to prepare for surgery and what to expect as you heal from liposuction treatment during your consultation. We also provide specific post-operative instructions for your care.
In general, you can expect the greatest amount of swelling 2-4 days after surgery. This is a normal sign of your body healing, and the swelling and bruising will begin to decrease rapidly so that at 2 weeks, most of the bruising will be gone and at 6-8 weeks, almost all of the swelling will be gone.
You will be restricted from taking a bath, swimming, or enjoying a hot tub for at least 2 weeks. Most patients feel good enough to return to normal activities after a few days, but you should refrain from strenuous activities until Dr. Brown clears you.
