Breast Health Before and After Implants in Phoenix

Prior to breast augmentation, Phoenix board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Brown will carefully evaluate your medical history to ensure you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. Good physical health before breast implants are placed is important to reduce potential unnecessary complications.

When placed by an experienced board certifed plastic surgeon like Dr. Brown, breast implants should not impact the health of your breasts or body. However, rare complications such as capsular contracture may require eventual breast implant replacement.

Cancer Screening

One of the worries women have about breast health following the placement of implants is how they will affect breast cancer screening. You should inform your doctor about your breast implants to ensure proper diagnostic tools are used when evaluating your breast, but breast implants have not been shown in the scientific literature to interfere with breast cancer detection or delay the stage of the cancer when diagnosed.

The position of your breast implants, above or below the muscle, will help your doctor determine the best test to screen for breast cancer. Whether your implants are below or above the muscle you may have a mammogram, but your doctor may also recommend additional exams such as MRI. To date no study has shown that breast implants increase your risk for breast cancer.

Dr. Brown will discuss breast health with you and answer questions you may have about breast implants during your initial consultation.

If you live in Phoenix, Scottsdale, or surrounding areas of Arizona and would like to learn more about breast augmentation, please contact Richard J. Brown, MD today to schedule a consultation.
