BREAST REDUCTION

WHAT IS A BREAST REDUCTION?

Breast reduction surgery is a life-changing procedure and has one of the highest satisfaction rates of any procedure Dr. Brown performs. It is a procedure that removes excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue from the breast. The areola skin, the dark skin around the nipple, can also be reduced in women who have large areolas.

Patients that often seek this procedure have problems with indentations in the shoulders left from bras, inability to work out due too discomfort, self-esteem problems, poor posture leading to neck and back pain, infections beneath the breasts and difficulty finding clothes that fit. This procedure is usually done to provide better physical comfort and to help reshape the breasts so they’re more proportionate to the rest of the body.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A BREAST REDUCTION?

You may be an ideal candidate for Breast Reduction:

  • If you are a healthy, non-nicotine using patient for more than one month with stable weight over 6 months
  • If you are unhappy and uncomfortable in social situations due to large breasts
  • If you are experiencing physical discomfort and pain due to large breasts
  • If one of your breasts is much bigger than the other

THE BREAST REDUCTION PROCEDURE

Dr. Brown will evaluate your specific situation to see what surgical technique is best suited for you. The situation may call for liposuction, excision or a combination of approaches to be used. Ultimately, excessive glandular breast tissue and skin will be removed. There are various incision patterns that Dr. Brown will review at your consultation.

Dr. Brown will make every effort to hide and minimize any scars he can while doing his best to achieve the desired outcome. With this procedure, the breasts are also lifted to a more rejuvenated position on the chest wall. Not all breast reductions are covered by insurance, and Dr. Brown’s specialized team will guide you through the process.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

You’ll most likely be advised to maintain reduced physical activity for 6 weeks to prevent complications.

You may drive when off all narcotic medications, and you feel safe to maneuver your car in an emergency. Pain medication will be prescribed to help with discomfort following the procedure, as well as antibiotic and nausea medication.

You will most likely sleep slightly elevated with pillows for several days, and will not be able to sleep on your front or sides for 6 weeks.
