How does BOTOX® Work?

by | Dec 24, 2013

How does BOTOX® Work?BOTOX® is one type of neurotoxin which can be used to minimize facial wrinkles and rejuvenate your faces appearance.  Many of our Scottsdale BOTOX patients are curious to know exactly how the injections work.

BOTOX Cosmetic is made from a natural occurring substance called Clostridium botulinum. When BOTOX is injected under your skin and into the muscles, this substance works to partially and reversably block the nerve signals to your muscles. Without the signal to contract beneath your skin, the muscles relax and the skin over them will begin to relax also, which results in the softening of wrinkles and lines on your face.

BOTOX is very effective at smoothing the lines on your forehead, crow’s feet, and frown lines. The injections only take a few minutes, and they last for about three months at a time. When used consistently the time that you need re-injection can stretch to as much as 4-5 months between injections.
