How Long Until I Can Play Sports After Surgery?

People often make the mistake of assuming that only certain types of people at certain ages seek the many different plastic surgery procedures offered at the office of Dr. Richard J. Brown.  The truth is, we work with patients from all walks of life, both young and old, to help them get the work done that they desire and feel more confident about their bodies.

This includes patients who are very active physically, even those who play sports. It might be a mother who recently had a child or a young woman who is look for a breast enhancement. These patients are passionate about their lives and the sports they play. They often have questions regarding how the specific surgery or procedure they want will affect their ability to get back to playing their chosen sport.

How Long Do I Have To Wait?

All of our patients, even those who are not involved in sports, are looking for a speedy recovery and the ability to return to their normal every day life just as soon as possible. There are some extra considerations for those who want to return to playing sports right away. Since every procedure is different, it often comes down to what the procedure is and how much the specific sport will affect the treated area.

As you can imagine, playing a physically demanding sport such as soccer after a breast enhancement surgery, for example, may require some time and patience. Not only will Dr. Brown want to make sure that the patient is healing correctly and in a timely fashion, but he will also want to ensure that enough recovery time has passed so the patient feels no unnecessary pain.

This is just one example. Again, every situation will be slightly different from the next. Having Dr. Brown in your corner and advising you every step of the way will play a major role in your ability to quickly get back to playing your sport again. These discussions will start long before you ever have your surgery so that you are fully aware of the expectations and have a realistic time frame in mind.

Keep in mind that Dr. Brown’s goal for each of his patients is a complete healing process. While you may be anxious to get back into the swing of things sooner than later, it is important that your body heals 100%.
