Abdominoplasty for Men (Tummy Tuck)

More men than ever are opting for a tummy tuck procedure to regain their masculine physique. While having a flat, toned stomach is a physical feature that so many men out there strive for, it is often difficult for most males to achieve through a proper meal plan and exercise routine. A tummy tuck is performed primarily to remove loose, excess skin and contour irregularities while giving men a firmer, tighter and more athletic physique. It is essential to keep in mind that a tummy tuck is not a substitute for healthy eating and exercise, which are foundations of a healthy lifestyle and lasting weight loss.

Am I a Good Candidate For
A Male Tummy Tuck?

You’re a good candidate for a tummy tuck:

  • If you do not smoke for at least 4 weeks before or after surgery and are in good health
  • If you have excessive skin and unwanted fat in the abdominal region
  • If you have maximized exercising and dieting, but without any significant improvement to physique
  • If you have realistic expectations

How Does A Male Tummy Tuck Work?

Dr. Brown will take the time to discuss your cosmetic goals and evaluate what would be the best options for you. While most of the procedure is the same for men and women the main difference is in the way Dr. Brown contours the hips in men compared to women. Often times the liposculpting part is slightly different for men than for women. Through his extensive knowledge and experience in different methods of male tummy tuck procedures, he will be able to create a customized treatment plan designed uniquely for you and to suit your preferences.

Male Tummy Tuck Procedure Details

Every tummy tuck performed by Dr. Brown is unique and customized to meet your goals. General anesthesia is used and Dr. Brown uses only accredited facilities with board-certified Anesthesiologists. A combination of liposuction and skin removal will be utilized by Dr. Brown. The main difference between male and female tummy tucks are how the waste is sculpted. Men desire a more masculine waist while women desire a more narrow waist.

Once the incision has been created, Dr. Brown will repair the abdominal muscles to restore a sculpted and toned appearance. He will then begin reducing unwanted fat, taking special care to ensure a natural-looking result. Finally, he will remove excess skin and close over a surgical drain with dissolvable sutures. Special dressings and an abdominal compression garment will be placed.

Is There Any Downtime?

You can expect to be at home not doing much for the first two weeks. Early recovery will extend to 6 weeks and during that time swelling and bruising will decrease significantly. It will take several months for all of the surgical swelling to go away while scars take a full year to mature and remodel.

Dr. Brown will advise you on any drains that may have been placed, symptoms that are likely to be experienced and complications to look out for. You will be instructed on how to manage your drains, compression garments, bandages, showering, and what activities you can and cannot engage in.

Drains are typically removed by your one week visit, depending on how much fluid is being collected. Ensure that you have assistance so as to not exert yourself physically. It is recommended you take two weeks off of work, depending on how physically demanding your work is.
