OPEN VS. CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose reshaping or a nose job, can be performed one of two ways: open or closed. Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery Scottsdale Rhinoplasty surgeon Dr. Richard Brown will closely examine your nose and facial features to determine which technique is right for you.

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose and would like to learn how Rhinoplasty can help you reach your aesthetic goals, please call 877-590-1169 to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Brown.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY

The open Rhinoplasty approach requires a series of incisions created inside the nostrils as well as across the skin of the columella (structure that separates the nostrils). This technique provides Dr. Brown with full access to underlying cartilage and bone, enabling him to correct even the most complex problems. This approach can also include work on the septum, or cartilage that separates the nostrils internally.

Because open Rhinoplasty requires an external incision, a visible scar may be present for a short time following your procedure. With proper scar care and close adherence to all of Dr. Brown’s pre and postoperative advice, this scar should become unnoticeable after a few months.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

Closed Rhinoplasty requires incisions inside the nose alone. With this technique, Dr. Brown’s access to internal structures is more limited, but there is almost no risk of external scarring. The closed procedure is often sufficient for mild to moderate correction of tip and nasal hump issues. Dr. Brown can also address breathing problems with this technique when indicated. However, this technique is not always able to address more pronounced imperfections.
