Pain and Bruising After Rhinoplasty

by | May 24, 2013

Pain and Bruising After RhinoplastyRhinoplasty is a surgical procedure and, as with any surgical procedure, some discomfort, swelling, and bruising should be expected during your recovery period. These common side effects of nose reshaping are generally nothing to worry about, but if pain is not well controlled, you should contact Phoenix Rhinoplasty surgeon Dr. Richard Brown right away. Significant pain or swelling may indicate a bigger problem and should be addressed as soon as possible.

Dealing with Discomfort

Following your Rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Brown will provide you with both instructions and medications. The medications should be used as needed to help manage discomfort and the instructions should be carefully followed to help reduce bruising and swelling.

Discomfort should be minimal and should not last for more than one week. Bruising and swelling can last for substantially longer. In fact, it is not uncommon for bruising to take several weeks to subside, particularly if the open Rhinoplasty technique was used.

Healing from any procedure is an individual affair, dependent on factors that are unique to you. Dr. Brown will remain available to you during your recovery period to answer any questions you may have and to help ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

If you live in the Phoenix, Arizona area and would like to learn more about rhinoplasty recovery, please contact Richard J. Brown, M.D. today to schedule an initial consultation.
