QUESTIONS ABOUT LIPOSUCTION

WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN BE TREATED WITH LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction can safely be used to remove excess fatty tissue from the ankles, calves, thighs, hips, waist, buttocks, abdomen, back, flanks, chest, arms, neck, and face. In fact, with modern liposuction techniques, board-certified Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Brown can use liposuction to remove unsightly deposits of fat from nearly any area of the body.

WHAT TYPES OF LIPOSUCTION DOES DR. BROWN OFFER?

The liposuction options offered by Dr. Brown are traditional and ultrasonic. Both of these liposuction techniques have been safely used for decades and are capable of producing stunning results.

Both traditional and ultrasonic liposuction require incredibly small incisions through which a cannula can be inserted to gently remove fatty deposits. With ultrasonic liposuction, a tumescent fluid is injected prior to the incisions and ultrasonic waves are used to liquefy fat prior to removal. The type of liposuction best for you will be dependent on your body’s unique needs.

IS LIPOSUCTION A GOOD WEIGHT LOSS METHOD?

Liposuction can be used to remove small amounts of fat from nearly every area of the body, but is not a good method of weight loss. The more fat that is removed from the body, the greater the risks to the patient. Due to this, a typical liposuction procedure will not remove more than ten pounds of fat from any one area of the body.

If you are not within reach of your weight goal, diet and exercise should be used prior to considering liposuction.

WHO IS A GOOD LIPOSUCTION CANDIDATE?

The best candidates for liposuction should be close to their ideal weight. In addition, good candidates for this procedure should be in generally good health, nonsmokers, and prepared for a surgical procedure. Skin elasticity will also be a consideration prior to liposuction. During your initial consultation, Dr. Brown will assess your frame and help you determine if liposuction is right for you.

DOES LIPOSUCTION PROVIDE LIFE-LONG RESULTS?

Once removed, fat cannot come back. However, new fat can accumulate if you do not adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. The best way to enhance and lengthen your liposuction results is through a well-balanced diet and at least two hours of exercise every week.
