Are saline or silicone implants best for my breast augmentation?

Many of our Phoenix area breast augmentation patients ask this question. The short answer is: it depends on your body and your aesthetic goals. In consultation with Dr. Richard Brown, you will review all of your breast implant options.

Both saline and silicone implants have a durable silicone shell. The main difference between the two is the filling used in each, which will affect the look and feel of your breast augmentation results.

Saline implants are filled with a salt water solution. They require a smaller incision because they are filled during surgery. Your results will generally feel firmer than silicone implants. Saline implants have a higher risk of rippling, especially for thinner patients. They are available for women aged 18 or older.

Silicone implants are a fixed size because they are prefilled with silicone. Although they require a slighter larger incision, they provide a softer, more natural feel. They do not ripple as easily as saline and are available for women over the age of 22. They can be used in women under the age of 22, but you should know this would be off label use of the device.

If you are ready to find out which type of breast implant is best for you, please call 480-568-3804 or contact Dr. Richard Brown today for your breast augmentation consultation with an experienced Phoenix area plastic surgeon.
