What’s the Best Treatment for Removing Excess Skin After Massive Weight Loss?

It can be frustrating to lose a lot of weight yet still be left with excess skin. The good news is there are a several treatments that can help you get rid of excess skin that just won’t seem to go away with diet and exercise. Here at Brown Plastic Surgery, we may recommend a tummy tuck, arm lift, and/or thigh lift. Let’s take a closer look at what each of these procedures entail.

She desired breasts as large as possible. I exchanged her tissue expanders for Mentor High Profile Smooth Round 800cc Silicone Implants. She is seen here prior to having nipple reconstruction.

Tummy Tuck

Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is designed to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen area. It can also restore weakened or separated muscles to create a smooth and firm abdominal profile.

You may benefit from a tummy tuck if your abdominal skin has lost elasticity after drastic weight loss and/or you’d like to tighten loose abdominal muscles that are a result of weight gain or pregnancy.

Arm Lift

Brachioplasty surgery or an arm lift can help create you achieve the toned arms you’ve always dreamed of. An arm lift may be a good option for you if you have skin that hangs in folds and wrinkles along the underside of your arms. By performing an arm lift, Dr. Brown can trim away this excess skin and reduce a flabby appearance.

Thigh Lift

The goal of thigh lift surgery is to firm and tighten the inner and outer thighs. This procedure involves removing excess skin and fat and elevating the remaining tissues. Dr. Brown may suggest a thigh lift in conjunction with another procedure such as body contouring or liposuction. After undergoing a thigh lift, you may enjoy contoured thighs that are noticeable right away.

Why Excess Skin Often Remains After Weight Loss

The reality is that it is common for excess skin to remain after weight loss. This is because when you lose weight, your skin loses elasticity and can’t always pull back tight around your new and more prominent muscles. While the fat mass underneath your skin may be gone, the surface area may remain the same, leaving with you excess skin.

I am very pleased with my recent surgery with Dr. Brown. I felt I was in good hands, and it was explained in detail what he was going to do. He and his staff are very caring and helpful. I feel like a new person.
Thank you, Dr. Brown and staff.
